What’s wrong with this plant?
Day by Day March 27th, 2007I am not a gardener. I do not have a green thumb.
I’d like to have those luscious, dark green, leafy, healthy plants I see in almost everyone’s house.
About every three months, I have to buy a new patch of plants. I water them often, but not so much that you could say over-watering. I place them in direct or indirect sunlight – whatever it says on the little tags that come with them.
I pull off dead leaves as they appear. I turn the plants so they don’t stretch toward the winter sun.
So how come they always end up like this?

Can plants commit suicide? Do they benefit from counseling? Can they have an attitude problem?
I DON’T talk to them. They are plants. Vegetables. Flora. I cannot see how hearing my voice can benefit them in any way. They live in jungles, or on prairies, or in forests naturally. Do we actually believe that gophers and monkeys and zebras talk to the plants to spur them on to maturity? I don’t. I think they manage quite well on their own.
Any suggestions?

My suggestion is . . . get some artificial plants from a company such as “Totally Tropical”!!!! (I have the same problem as you do, Lee, and therefore I rely on my artificial plants. Audie, on the other hand, seems to have a “green thumb” and has kept several of our indoor “real” plants alive . . . go figure.
