Lucky day
Day by Day May 24th, 2007Despite the fact it rained most of the day, and I have a sore back from the landscaping work I was doing, it turned out to be a good day.
When I got home from work, Bandit was ready for a game of frisbee. There was no debate on the issue. After all, he had a hard day guarding my house while I was gone and needed a little recreation. It’s sort of his way of going for a beer after work to unwind.
As I was crossing the road to the little park across the street, I noticed a purple piece of paper stuck in the grass over by the skating rink. It looked like the right colour for a ten dollar bill, but I disregarded it for a few frisbee tosses. Curiosity finally got the better of me, and I walked towards the coloured paper. The closer I got to it, the more it looked like a free pack of cigarettes to me.
Sure enough – it was a ten dollar bill. The rain had soaked it pretty well, so it must have been laing there for quite a while. Lucky for me, because that stopped the wind from blowing it who knows where. I stuffed the wet money in my pocket and threw the frisbee to Bandit.
After a couple of frisbee runs, I spotted another piece of debris in the park, that was sort of $20 green. “Not too likely,” I thought, “but I can go over there and check it out.” It WAS a twenty dollar bill.
It goes without saying that the next twenty minutes or so, there wasn’t too much frisbee concentration. After all, luck is supposed to come in threes, isn’t it? I paid more attention to the litter in the park than the real task at hand. That pissed off Bandit, who I’m sure was thinking that after all these years it was amazing that I could completely forget the rules of the game.
It’s still a rainy day, my back is still sore, but I have a wet pocket with thirty dollars in it now.
