Mostly the second floor

It’s all about the second floor these days.

There’s a whole lot of drywall hung on the bedroom walls, and the bathroom is looking good.   The toilet isn’t functional yet, but it does provide us with the opportunity to test the theory that urine is actually a natural herbicide. Read the rest of this entry »

Finally, a roofer

We found someone who was willing to do the roof.  Most of the contractors were too busy, or didn’t want to take on the job because of the style of the roof.  I even had to make appointment for two and three months away just to get an estimate.  Whew! Read the rest of this entry »

2nd story again

2nd story again 01Up on the second floor, insulation and vapour barrier has been completed, some of the electrical, and a fair amount of the framing for the new walls is finished.

Another supporting beam was added across the master bedroom ceiling to repair a sagging problem.  We assumed that it had originally been two smaller rooms, and (surprise!) a supporting wall was removed.

We also found hardwood floor under the old carpet.  I expected that it would be a hardwood floor, but not that it would be in such good condition.

The foundation framed in

Since we already had a couple of layers of basement wall, we decided to frame in the foundation with 2X8′s and plywood.  You can see through the windows we have three basement walls now – a wooden exterior, a cinder-crete wall, and then a 2X4 wall. Read the rest of this entry »
