Beach fun

Polo Beach is a small beach, and not too many people visit it.  Like all of the beaches, the water is warm and clear, and there’s a long stretch of sand where it seems you can wade forever before the water gets deep enough that you are forced to swim.

Obviously, I don’t know any of the people in the photos, but it looked like they were all having fun.  I wanted to try the “boogie board” thing, but decided to wait for another day.

And if I ever master the boogie boards, maybe I can move up to kayaking on a surfboard…

By now, I could feel my legs starting to burn, and knew I needed to get away from the sun.  And look for some sun screen.  And find a beer.  And get something to eat.  I asked the boogie board rental guy where I could find all of that.  He told me it was about a 15 minute walk to the Shops At Wailea.  Suspiciously I headed into the direction he pointed.

Another half hour later, I found the shopping mall.  Way too expensive for my taste, and nothing of interest to me, but they had a Hawaiian Cheeseburger place.  I ordered the daily special and a beer.  And shared my meal with a couple of birds (some kind of pigeon, I think)

I did draw the line when they asked me if I was going to finish the beer.

Still sunscreen-less, I headed back to my hotel.  I was gonna hurt tomorrow – I could feel my kneecaps burning.  It was a long walk, uphill all the way, and unfortunately facing into the sun all the way.
