I read somewhere that you only tease people you like.

I think that’s probably true. Unless you are trying to hurt someone (and that’s more like harassment), we only tease the people we care about.

So when I decided to have a little fun with my sister’s facebook page on this blog, I didn’t really expect anyone to see it. Of course, this is the web, so there’s the potential for millions to see it. But after all, this blog is one of thousands (millions???) and I know it’s not one of the hot spots on the internet. Far from it. If I get ten or twenty hits a day, I think it’s been a busy day.

Imagine my surprise when all of a sudden my blog is being hit regularly. Not in the millions, of course. But unusually high for my little spot.

And it’s all because I teased my little sister (publicly – yes, but not with any spite intended)

Another website grabbed the post the next day and included it in an article about the need to redesign Facebook. (you can read the article here) And as the internet goes, they told two friends, and they told two friends, and they told two friends…

The result, in the end, was not only did I tease my sister, but unintentionally, many people. I hope everyone takes it in the spirit it was intended. It’s your Facebook profile, and you can have it any way you want.

And, if your interested, the Facebook people are redesigning the look, with the intent of removing some of the clutter. You can see previews of the new design here and here.

I’m not sure I get Facebook.

That’s not exactly true. I do understand what it is, and how it works.

The thing is, I don’t see how anyone can possibly visit all of their friends pages, and browse all of the stuff that’s there. Most pages go on and on and on forever.

I probably shouldn’t say that. I don’t mean that they are boring or uninteresting It’s more like there’s too much stuff.

It’s all important stuff, I’m sure. In fact, my page at facebook gets pretty long (and dare I say it) cluttered.

The fact is, the more “friends” you have, the more likely you are going wind up with a very long page. For example:

little annoying.

I doubt that I have ever made it all the way to the bottom of Sherry’s page, and actually read everything that’s there.

Maybe you’re not supposed to.

But that defeats the purpose of a “social network” if you don’t take the time to get all the gossip.

Okay, it’s not all gossip.

Since I only have a few facebook friends, I imagine I will eventually get through all of their pages. Only to have to start all over whenever I get notified of a “post to my wall” or an “invitation” to some new gadget that I can add.

How does everyone do it? No wonder some employers are blocking Facebook at the workplace. It can be a little time consuming.

I’m not suggesting that anyone change their facebook style or page. However, I have had people say “Did you see on Facebook that…”

Well, I probably haven’t.

I’m still working on my sister’s page, and I hope to be at your’s tomorrow

Saturday morning I went fishing with Sherry and Herb at the Craik Regional Park. I bought a fishing rod and reel, the angler’s license, and left home with a positive attitude.

I had been promised that there would be good fishing because my guides knew all of the good spots. As it turns out, there was only three or fish in the whole lake, and Sherry caught them all. Two of them were worth keeping, one of them was a little iffy, and the one to the left was nothing more than a large guppy.

Despite the fact the fishing wasn’t the greatest, it was a sunny, calm day, and well worth the time. My sister claims she had “the big one,” but that story cannot be verified, and goes into “the one that got away” bin. I may have had one fish nibble at the hook, but more than likely I just snagged on some seaweed. Herb also claims he had one up to the side of the boat, but there is no evidence to the existence of that fish.

The only ones that appeared to be ahead in the game were the pelicans. They do have the advantage – their plan was to herd them into a group and swoop them out of the water. There’s no challenge in that, but it did put supper on the table.

How to build a bridge:

Find a hole in the ground for the bridge to go over. If there are no available holes, dig one. Optionally, consider putting water in the hole if there is not already some there.

Find scrap lumber. You will need some pieces that are at least 10 feet long.

Lay two or three pieces of the lumber out on ground, and fasten together as best you can.

Cut out the parts that don’t look like the side of a bridge. CAUTION: Don’t spend too much time on this step, because it delays the construction of the bridge. Learn to adapt to what you have, and deny that the result is anything but exactly what you intended.

Lay out some more lumber, and copy and cut out the parts you decided look like a bridge. (or is it cut out the parts that DON’T look like a bridge? Either way, the result should be the same…)

Despite careful planning, the two sides will not be identical. They should be somewhat similar. Decide that they are close enough, and continue with next step.

Find more scrap lumber for the “deck” of the bridge. At this point you should cut the lumber to pieces of the same length (or at least reasonably close) You can measure if you feel the need to, but that takes more time.

Screw the deck boards onto the TOP of the parts that looked like the side of the bridge (see steps 4,5 and 6 for details)

Realize you maybe should have measured before you screwed ALL of the boards on, because everything is a little crooked. Refer to step 6, and decide once again that it is close enough.

Move bridge to the location selected in step 1

Jump up and down on bridge to make sure it is safe. Wear safety equipment in case something happens.

Admire you handiwork for an appropriate amount of time.

You have completed the basic bridge. Decide you are not sure how to build handrails and will give it some consideration over night. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Thanks for the help, Sherry and Mick!
